The Year 10 Program offers four PE/Health Electives.

Core PE and Health

 

Students continue to build on their offensive and defensive skills, and their knowledge of strategies, tactics, and formations developed in Year 9. Students develop their leadership and communication skills by taking up coaching roles in a sport of their choice. In theory classes students further enhance their knowledge of the skeletal, muscular, and respiratory systems, and develop an understanding for the cardiovascular system, energy systems and fitness components. 

SuperFit

 

Aim: To introduce students to a wide range of training methods to improve fitness levels through participation in a student designed training program. This unit is aimed at students who are serious about improving their fitness. Topics: Fitness components, energy systems, training methods, training principles. Activities: A variety of training methods including continuous, interval, flexibility, plyometrics, circuit and weight training. 

Body and Soul

 

The focus of this unit is on health and wellbeing. Students will study health dimensions. Topics covered include:

 Nutrition
 Health
 Identity
 Body image
 Diet related disease

Students participate in a range of practical activities including Zumba, Massage, Yoga, Pilates, Tai Chi and Aerobics. 

Game of Life

 

In this unit students will develop personal career goals and pathways. This will involve researching a career of their choice, developing a resume and cover letter and also develop the skills to attend a job interview. They will also complete a week of compulsory work experience.

Students will also develop a wide range of valuable life skills that will equip them to handle the challenges of being an adolescent in today’s society.  

Individual Activities

Aim: Introduce and develop skills in a variety of individual (non-team game) sports.

Content includes archery, badminton, squash, racquetball, ten pin bowling, golf, self- defence, skate park activities and personalised fitness program. Theory work associated with the above activities includes tactics and nutrition for athletics.
